This 3-hour training prepares designated DoD MHS primary care pain care champions for their role as pain trainers and consultants for the PCMH team, pain SMEs, Stepped Care Model for Pain (SCM) implementors for the clinic, and academic advisors. The training will define SCM for pain workflows, roles/responsibilities of primary care team members actively participating in the Stepped Care Model for Pain, and job aids/tools for use in patient education and documentation.

This 1.5 hour follow-on training that takes place immediately after the 1.5 hour Stepped Care Model (SCM) for Pain web-based training course. This follow-on training is intended for pain champions and will involve live discussion with the presenter regarding the key points of the SCM for Pain training and related implementation efforts, including, but not limited to: background, biopsychosocial assessment of pain, evidence-based treatment recommendations (both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic), the roles of Primary Care Medical Home (PCMH) team members in the SCM for Pain.

Dizziness and visual disturbances commonly occur after concussion or mild traumatic brain injury. Often, post-concussive dizziness and visual disturbances will present with overlapping symptoms and should prompt providers to perform a focused assessment for both concerns when treating patients with TBI. This training will review commonly encountered mTBI associated dizziness and visual disturbances, preferred treatment options, and specialty referral considerations.

This series of eight, biweekly calls follows the 8-hour Brief CBT for Pain training designed for Behavioral Health Consultants (BHCs) in the DoD.  Each call lasts one hour and includes a didactic topic that focuses on a more specific aspect of pain treatment, as well as ample time for discussion and consultation regarding participants’ patient cases.  Active engagement by participants is a must both in terms of bringing cases to discuss as well as offering feedback and suggestions to fellow participants.  An expert trainer will present each didactic and facilitate
