Program Description: Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) can cause disturbances of chemical and electrical function within the brain which affects the neurotransmitters that govern the sleep-wake cycle (circadian rhythm). Consequentially, the ability of the service member to function in the workplace is affected, along with the service member’s social, emotional, and overall physical functioning.

Program Description: This course will train those in attendance on use of the Military Acute Concussion Evaluation 2 (MACE 2). The MACE 2 is a multimodal tool developed to standardize the initial evaluation and assessment of concussion. Use of the MACE 2 will help providers determine whether an individual has met concussion diagnostic criteria as outlined by the Department of Defense.

Program Description: Headache is the most commonly reported symptom following concussion. Over 80% of concussed service members have reported a post-traumatic headache and many describe the headache as significantly impacting their daily function and quality of life. This online course will train healthcare providers on how to evaluate and manage post-traumatic headaches by reviewing the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence Assessment and Management of Headache Following Concussion/Mild Traumatic Brain Injury clinical recommendation.

Program Description: This course was designed to refresh and enhance existing knowledge of health care providers already familiar with the MACE 2. This training will teach learners how to use the MACE 2, a multimodal tool developed to assist providers in the assessment and diagnosis of concussion. Guidance on how to complete a concussion screening that includes a symptom assessment, cognitive examination, brief neurological exam, and the Vestibular/Ocular-Motor Screening included within the MACE 2 will be provided.

This training reviews commonly encountered mTBI-associated dizziness and visual disturbances, as well as preferred treatment options and specialty referral considerations. A diagnostic algorithm guides providers through the initial assessment and targeted screening questions to determine if a more focused assessment of dizziness or vision is necessary. The training concludes with instruction on the application of unique tests and maneuvers to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of identified dizziness or visual disturbances.
