Stepped Care Model for Pain Web-Based Training Follow-on Webinar Discussion

Program Description

This 1.5 hour follow-on training that takes place immediately after the 1.5 hour Stepped Care Model (SCM) for Pain web-based training course. This follow-on training is intended for pain champions and will involve live discussion with the presenter regarding the key points of the SCM for Pain training and related implementation efforts, including, but not limited to: background, biopsychosocial assessment of pain, evidence-based treatment recommendations (both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic), the roles of Primary Care Medical Home (PCMH) team members in the SCM for Pain.

Target Audience

 

This Activity provides continuing education for:  physicians, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, social workers, psychologists, dentists, dental hygienists, dental technicians, registered dieticians, dietetic technicians, and healthcare executives. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees. 

Learning Objectives

By the end of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify the variables that perpetuate pain.
  2. Use the Defense and Veterans Pain Rating Scale (DVPRS).
  3. Ask psychosocial questions as part of a complete biopsychosocial pain assessment.
  4. Provide pain education and collaboratively setting treatment goals.
  5. Create an evidence-based, comprehensive treatment plan to effectively treat acute and chronic pain; promote non-pharmacologic treatment; and prevent acute pain from becoming chronic.
  6. Support patient’s self-management and behavior changes.
  7. Minimize use of opioids; assessing and minimizing risk when used.
  8. Connect with team members in the Stepped Care Model.
