Substance Use 101 for Leaders Understanding the Landscape and Implementing Effective Strategies

Discussion of the distinct populations and patterns of substance use in the DoD, ASAM criteria, and policy changes that impact SUD treatment in the DoD. Diagnostic criteria, screening, and treatment options for Problematic Gambling Disorder will also be presented.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, social workers, and psychologists. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Define the distinct populations in the DoD with regard to substance use.
  2. Distinguish between substance use patterns in the DoD for active duty and beneficiaries.
  3. Identify ASAM Criteria and resources available in the direct care network.
  4. Explain changes in policy impacting substance use disorder treatment in the DoD.
  5. Describe the criteria for Problematic Gambling Disorder, as well as screening, diagnostic and treatment options.
