Sickle Cell Trait: What you Need to Know, 2023

Program Description

“Sickle Cell Trait: What You Need to Know” is a one CE enduring (also known as Home Study) meant to increase health care provider awareness of the risk factors and effective counseling for Individuals with Sickle Cell Trait (SCT). This course is available to health care providers across all branches of the military, as it is available via the Joint Knowledge Online website.

In 2022 the course underwent revision to provide more service specific direction for management and counseling with individuals with SCT.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for Physicians, Nurses, Physician Assistants, Pharmacists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Psychologists, Athletic Trainers, Kinesiotherapists, Physical Therapists, and Healthcare Executives. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify four medical conditions for which members with sickle-cell trait (SCT) are at increased risk.
  2. Outline the symptoms of exercise collapse associated with sickle-cell trait (ECAST) and determine how to mitigate the risk of ECAST.
  3. Explain all of the newly implemented Service specific mandates for medical providers regarding members with sickle cell trait.
